All of us have some pride. I have noticed that the stronger a person looks outwardly, the more vulnerable that person is deep inside. We cannot run away from our true self. Here is when the classic “To be or not to be?” comes.
Remember: you can and you should seek help! And only you have the right to decide, whether accept help or not.
When we don’t want to accept any aid, it’s our pride speaking. Sometimes we should just push ourselves to accept help, to come to terms with ourselves and to admit our weakness. We have to do it for our own wellbeing, so that later we won’t become a burden to our loved ones.
AN EXAMPLE TAKEN FROM MY LIFE
My mom is 82 years old. I live far away from her, in a different country. When she fell ill (she has cystitis, it started developing and the inflammation became quite dangerous), she just wouldn’t go to the doctor, no way.
At first, I could only advise her by phone: what medication to take, what food to eat. I came after two weeks, as soon as I could make it. And I was terrified when I saw her! My mom lost 6 kilos, her face turned grey and she was baffled and disoriented. Even when talking with me, she couldn’t understand what’s going on around her. She would get confused, she’d ask the same thing many times and wouldn’t eat.
Of course, I immediately took her to the doctor, she got a good treatment and, thank God, gradually she recovered.
But what to do next? I realised that my mom needs someone to check on her and to give a little help around the house.
